The Ginger Mule

The Ginger Mule

The Ginger Mule Restaurants, Houston

The Ginger Mule is a newly established plant-based restaurant that had its soft opening in 2023, and it appears to be thriving.

While I'm not typically a vegetarian diner, I decided to visit based on the restaurant's reputation, and I was not disappointed.

Upon reviewing the menu, it became clear that this was not your average vegan dining experience. I opted for The Fajitas, which featured a generous serving of portobello mushrooms, peppers, and onions. It was accompanied by sour cream, guacamole, rice, beans, and salsa, and for those with dietary preferences, a gluten-free wrap option was available.

My dining companion chose the Cozy Curry, a flavorful dish loaded with squash, chickpeas, cauliflower, and carrots, prepared with massaman yellow Thai paste and coconut milk, offering both spice and creaminess. Tofu could be added, but it wasn't necessary.

The restaurant also catered to children with a menu offering grilled cheese, mini pizzas, and cannon balls, which are lentil meatballs served with sweet potato fries.

The prices were notably reasonable, with the fajitas being one of the pricier options at $21.00. The curry was priced at just $14.00, and the kids' meals were either $8.00 or $9.00 each. The portions were fair for the price, and the food was exceptionally flavorful. Despite not being vegetarian, both my dining partner and I agreed that we would return for another visit.

I visited this establishment for brunch and was pleasantly surprised by the welcoming ambiance. If you hadn’t mentioned that it’s entirely vegan, I wouldn’t have guessed. I particularly relished the delectable pancakes and the mouthwatering carnitas tacos. While it may be a bit on the expensive side, the exceptional quality of the food justifies the cost. Additionally, they offer a wide range of beverages, including espresso (although almond milk is not available), and a fully stocked bar.

Without a doubt, this restaurant offers the finest vegan meal I’ve ever experienced. Our server, Eli, provided excellent service by regularly checking in on us and suggesting menu options that pleasantly surprised us. The house-made hot sauce is not to be underestimated; it’s incredibly flavorful and packs a delightful punch. And, when it comes to dessert, the tres leches is absolutely exceptional.
