Named after the famous Astrodome (Houston’s 8th wonder of the world in 1965), 8th Wonder Brewery now crafts over 25 specialized ales. All of these crafts, in some way, relate to Houston’s spirit and culture.
The High-Grade – West Coast IPA was an excellent, no-frills ale, heavily hopped, with tastes of pine. It is available on draft and by the can all year round and is a high 7%ABV.
They pride themselves on bringing good fun to all the ales they craft, as well as the service they provide, and this is apparent when visiting.
It is only a stone’s throw away from the professional sports stadiums, making it the perfect location to visit before or after a game. They also host special events, so it’s worth checking out their website to keep up-to-date with what’s on, on which dates.
It’s also worth trying out their herbal and spiked spritzers, such as the Watermelon Wonder Water. They are low calories and super refreshing low-alcohol beverages, perfect for pre-game drinking or finishing the night. They also offer non-alcoholic spritzers if you want the beer without the lousy head the next day.

2. Saint Arnold Brewing Company

Shipping over their first keg of beer to Houston in 1994, Saint Arnold Brewing Company is Texas’ oldest craft brewery. They quickly became one of Houston’s most popular destinations, serving some of the best full-flavored beers in Texas and Louisiana.
They brew, filter, keg, and bottle everything on-site at the brewery, meaning everything you drink is unique, and their beers are now available to buy in some grocery stores around Houston.
Still, we recommend for the best experience of these amazingly crafted ales; you visit them to get it straight from the keg. This way, you also had the opportunity to try some of their rarer and unique one-off brews fresh from the tap.
Their Hideaway Beer was one of our favorites. It is available all year round, combining salt and lime; it is sweet with a great tang, a citric finish, and derived from El Dorado hops. It is 5% ABV.
For a non-alcoholic choice, try their root beer with a scoop of ice cream. Delicious on a warmer day.
They also have a great food menu, with foods that go perfectly with their ales. You will find things such as homemade sandwiches, fresh pizzas, and loaded fries. We recommend trying the Amber Ale Bratwurst, which is served on a pretzel with sauerkraut and amber ale mustard. This will cost you $13.00 and is, of course, advised to have alongside their Amber Ale.
You can buy the ales in a choice of three sizes, 4oz, pint, or by the mug, and prices vary from beer to beer; for the standard print, you can expect a medium-strength ale to cost around $5.50.
Also highly recommended is the beer flight, where you can get a taste of 5 different ales for only $13.00.

3. True Anomaly Brewing Company

True Anomaly Brewing Company is probably the newest of breweries in our guide. But don’t let that fool you into thinking it doesn’t deserve a place here. Opening in 2019, and only a stone’s throw from our previously mentioned 8th Wonder, Anomaly quickly became a popular destination for drinkers in Houston.
It is well known for its classical ales and modernly crafted sour-tart flavored beers.
They update their menu regularly, and their ales are always in season, meaning if you visit every couple of months, you’re always guaranteed to find something new on offer.
One of the ales on offer when we visited was the Go Flight; it was soft, fruity, and tropical with a hint of citrus. If you’re feeling brave and lucky enough to catch it on sale, you should also try the “Heat Shields Are For Sissies,” with a very high ABV of 10%. It isn’t for the faint-hearted, but if you can handle it, then it’s a fantastic drink, sweetened with flavors of fig and dates. It is the perfect dark Belgian ale.
True Anomaly is an ever-growing business, and there are new things to explore and additions being made all the time. They also have an event room available to book for special occasions. The ales are priced nicely here but vary seasonally and depending on the ale.
4. Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company

Established in 2011, Buffalo Bayou Brewing Company first opened at the end of downtown and wasn’t the most attractive of venues, to say the least. As the company has expanded and developed, it has been transformed into one of the city’s most popular destinations.
Being a fantastic place to call in and grab a cold pint, it also now has a trendy restaurant. The restaurant serves lunch and dinner daily from 11:00 am, making it the perfect spot to line your bellies before you hit the beers. The Smoked Birra Nachos go perfectly if you’re looking for a side dish to wash down with your ale.
There is an excellent choice of ales to choose from. The mango crush IPA was smooth, fruity, and brilliant for a warm day. If you were looking for a darker ale, we recommend trying the Maple Chili Jam.
Although not one of the darkest, this red ale is full of berry flavors, with smoked oak and a slight after hinting of warmth from the chili. It was a unique flavor and one you won’t forget in a rush.
It is recommended by the brewery to enjoy this beer with picnic food. The German Chocolate Cake is also an excellent choice for anyone who prefers a sweeter ale containing chocolate, vanilla, and coconut flavors.
The reasonable price list here makes the place all the more appealing, with all ales being available in cans or as a pint for only $5.00 each.
5. Spindle Tap

Spindle Tap is an exciting and diverse brewery, crafting unique and fun ales. They are a well-established company that sells many of their popular beers at well-known Texas grocery stores, events across Houston, and of course, at the brewery itself.
Some of the best beers on offer were the Tessellations, a berry and black cherry ale, very deep in flavor, yet easy drinking and fruity with a sour twist. They also do another version of Tessellations in a rhubarb and blackberry pie. The Hop Gusher, an American IPA, was also a tasty favorite. Light and refreshing.
Alongside the fantastic ales, there is also a fabulous restaurant. So, if you’re looking for somewhere to take the family, enjoy a meal and a pint, or simply want some good old-fashioned food to soak up the ales, you’ll find all the above here at Spindle Tap.
They are also well known for their outdoor gaming area, making them trendy during the warmer months. You can play soccer/football, kickball, T-ball, basketball, corn hole, and spindle putt (crazy-golf).
They are also available for events and parties.
The pints here will cost you between $5.00 and $8.00, depending on the strength and choice of ale.

Eureka Heights is, without a doubt, the most fun location we visited. It’s even said to be the most fun brewery in the whole of Houston. It is a far cry from some of the upper-class, serious breweries, and put all their focus into making fantastic beer, with a unique twist, in an exciting environment. This is what makes it such a famous watering hole with locals and tourists alike.
They host light-hearted events such as food trucks, selling various kinds of street foods, and tasking flights. And this is a fantastic way to get a sample of all the unique ales and see which one you like the best and some fun trivia quiz nights.
Their selection of beers and ales is vast, and you’ll definitely be spoilt for choice when it comes to picking your favorite tipple. A couple that came out tops with our votes were the seasonal Moo Caliente, a milk stout with cayenne, and the seasonal Lavender Bunny, a cream ale. If you aren’t lucky enough to catch either of these two on tap when you visit, then why not try one of the all year-rounders, like Space Train or Buckle Bunny.
