Food
Let’s get into the most important thing, the food! La Guadalupana serves authentic Mexican food with amazingly delicious flavors. It’s the ideal place to go for breakfast or lunch.
Here’s what you can expect.
1. Breakfast
There is some excellent breakfast food to be found at La Guadalupana. If you want something filling, you can go for a breakfast croissant (egg, sausage, bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, and cheese) or the Migas (chorizo, onions, jalapeno, tomatoes, and tortilla strips scrambled with eggs served with beans).
You can also go for the buttermilk pancakes or a classic omelet. The portions are generous, so a breakfast here will keep you going all day.
2. Appetizers
If you want something light, you can grab some nachos, tamales, and tostadas. They’re delicious and packed with flavor.
Try the gorditas (it can be your choice of meat, served with beans, lettuce, tomatoes, onion, and panela cheese), or the Torta de Bistec y Queso (served with grilled onions and jalapenos, beans, Monterey Jack cheese, lettuce, onions, tomatoes mayo, avocado, pineapple, pork, sausage, and ham. A bargain at $8, and delicious!
3. Chef Specialties
We’d recommend the Enchiladas de Espinaca con Camaron (two spinach, shrimp, and Monterey Jack cheese enchiladas with rice and beans, topped with crema Poblana, mushrooms, and cilantro). But there are tons of unique dishes to find here. The enchiladas are very popular among customers.
You could go for something like fajitas or quesadillas or try David’s Plate (chicken breast in special green hot sauce served with sliced tomatoes and avocado, rice, and black beans).
4. Soup and Seafood
There are a few soups here, like Caldo de mariscos (shrimp, fish, and seafood medley with vegetable soup) and the Menudo (beef tripe soup). We’d also recommend the pozole, a pork & hominy soup. It’s indeed hearty and warm.
Seafood-wise, there are a few options. You could try the tasty steamed bass with vegetables in a Veracruz style sauce with rice and charro beans.
5. Sides and Extras
You can add some great sides and extras here. Apart from the sides, you might expect french fries, avocado, flour tortillas, guacamole, chips, and salsa. Also, you could grab some extra protein with egg whites or bacon or add a portion of mole sauce for extra flavor.
6. Desserts
There isn’t as much variety here, but you can choose from cheesecake, chocolate espresso, tiramisu, tres leches, or flan. In addition, the bakery has a broader selection, which we’ll talk about in a moment.
7. Drinks
You can get some delicious freshly squeezed juices here. Try the Vampiro Fresh-Squeezed (orange, carrot, and beet). You can even get a milkshake, hot chocolate, or a coffee (the coffee is well-known locally for being delicious). They don’t serve alcohol here, which is something to keep in mind.
8. Bakery
There’s also a bakery here, serving incredible pastries. They have churros and croissants, and the almond flavored croissants are worth trying, with delicious flaky pastry and almond cream in the center.
It’s definitely worth visiting La Guadalupana, even if just to grab a coffee and a pastry on the go!
