Recommended for:Wine, cocktails, charcuterie

Located just outside Houston’s Chinatown, Ivy is a craft cocktail bar inspired by a European style.

One of the main reasons these guys made it to our guide to the best bars in Chinatown is its events, one of which hosts live jazz music played on the open rooftop bar. The jazz music usually takes place on a Sunday morning where you can enjoy the ambiance of the rooftop, with some great food and beautiful music. It’s a brilliant start to any Sunday morning or a great way to spend a relaxing afternoon.

However, if you’re looking for something a little more lively, they’ve got you covered there. There is plenty of other live music on Thursday and Saturday evenings to get stuck into.

They have a fantastic food menu, like pizzas, paninis, soups, and salads. The one thing that really stood out to us was the large charcuterie board; this cost $48.00 and consists of a lovely selection of cheeses, Italian meats, spiced pumpkin seeds, strawberries, jalapenos, seasonal fruits, honeycomb, and almond fig cake. It was beautifully presented and would probably feed 4 people as a light lunch option if you wanted to share something with your party.

If you have more of a sweet tooth, there is a small but excellent selection of sorbets and gelatos, all costing $6.00. There is a choice of flavors such as mint chocolate, lemon and thyme, and grapefruit and mint.

There is a great selection of well-thought-out and unique cocktails, such as the New Fashionista, Ciao Bello, and The Horizon.

The prices for the cocktails are pretty high-end; we’re talking $16.00 – $18.00 for some of them. But the food, on the other hand, is very reasonably priced, and a lot of the main course dishes are between $8.00 and $17.00. So if you’re looking for a more pocket-friendly trip out, skip out on the cocktails, and this is easily achieved.

The opening hours here are as follows:

  • Monday: 11:00 am – 5:00 pm
  • Tuesday: 11:00 am – 9:00 pm
  • Wednesday: 11:00 am – 9:00 pm
  • Thursday: 11:00 am – 11:00 pm
  • Friday: 11:00 am – 12:00 am
  • Saturday: 11:00 am – 12:00 am
  • Sunday: 11:00 am – 5:00 pm

6. Liberty Kitchen and Oysterette

Address:963 Bunker Hill Rd, Houston, TX 77024
Website:www.libertykitchenandoysterette.com
Recommended for:Oysters, great food, cocktails

Situated just 10 minutes from Houston’s bustling Chinatown, Liberty Kitchen and Oysterette are great little joints with a relaxing atmosphere. They are mainly famous for their fantastic food; they are just as happy to welcome guests looking for a quiet place to grab a drink.

However, we do recommend if you’re going to visit these guys, don’t miss out on the food.

They are proudly one of the best oyster bars in town; boasting selections from the East and Gulf coasts. As well as the fantastically fresh oysters, there is plenty more on the menu to feast more than just your eyes on. Items such as the seafood platter, lobster roll, and chicken florentine lasagne are just some of the superbly cooked dishes they offer.

They have a great selection of cocktails; we recommend trying the Libertini, made with pineapple-infused vodka, creme de cassis, and orange bitters bubbles – it’s lovely on a warm day.

The prices here are slightly towards the higher end when it comes to the food and the drink, but we think the experience and freshness of the seafood is worth the spend. The cocktails are priced between $12.00 and $19.00, and you can expect the main meal of fresh fish or steak to set you back around $40.00 – $60.00. You can, however, pick up something off the soups and salads menu for an average price of around $15.00. You can even really cut down the price by sharing with a friend and selecting a few shareable side dishes, which are all lovely as a light bite and mostly priced below $10.00.

The opening hours here are as follows:

  • Monday – Thursday: 11:00 am – 10:00 pm
  • Friday: 11:00 am – 11:00 pm
  • Saturday: 10:00 am – 11:00 pm
