7 Best Cake Shops for Custom Birthday Cakes in Houston, TX

When it comes to finding the best cake shops in Houston that can make you the perfect custom birthday cake, which places are the best quality and most reliable?

I know all too well the panic of a special birthday coming up and not knowing who to go to, especially after hearing horror stories about receiving the wrong cake or not being ready in time. After all, the centerpiece of anyone’s big birthday bash is the cake.

It’s important to remember that when it comes to specific cake designs, you should always contact the bakery directly to ensure that they can provide you with what you’re looking for in the time frame that you need it. The sooner you get the ball rolling, the more time they will have to perfect your design.

Where to Get The Best Custom Birthday Cakes in Houston?

During this guide, I want to take away some of your stresses about locating the right cake shop that will provide you with the best cake and a smooth experience.

I’ll be looking at each bakery, finding out what they specialize in, and discussing why they made it to my list of top picks in Houston.

One thing I must mention is that because we’re talking about something custom-made, I can’t tell you how much your cake will cost, so to get an accurate price, be sure to speak to the bakery before confirming your order.

So on that note, let us look at some of the best places for custom-made birthday cakes in Houston.

1. “Kiss The Cook” Cakes

Address10210 Grogans Mill Rd, Spring, TX 77380

This cake shop has been labeled as the creator of edible works of art, which is why I thought it was an excellent place to start my list. Known for their detailed, unique work and passion for anything cake related, you can guarantee that these guys will be able to supply you with anything you require.

Their designs range from sophisticated and classical to whimsical and novelty, and they offer a truly personalized experience from start to finish.

Besides the birthday cakes, you can also get all kinds of celebration cakes, such as weddings, cupcakes, holiday designs and much more, anything you desire.

Moeller’s Bakery holds a lot of history, 90 years of it, in fact. It was initially opened by the Moeller brothers, Gus and Raymond, in 1930. The two taught themselves how to bake, and Gus’s wife became known as “Grandma” across town, as she used to hand out cookies to the local children.

I love the fact that this place has so much history, and to me, it adds to the whole experience of buying their cakes.

Many of the recipes they use today are still the same as they were back in 1930. They don’t use any additives or preservatives, and they even still bake using the same oven they did before World War II, which I think is just remarkable.

In total, they have 15 employees, and between them, they hold 224 years of experience in baking, and two of those staff members have been there between 40 and 50 years.

I think that given the amount of history, tradition, passion, and love that this place has to offer, it has to be one of my top recommendations, and I would 100% recommend using them for any special occasion.

Another bakery that has been going for an extensive amount of time, since 1941, is Rao’s Bakery. Rao’s first opened back then as a small family bakery, and it has always been located in the original place. Though, of course, they now have many more sites, and I don’t think they’re stopping there; as I hear, there are plans to open more across the country.

Although, over the years, it’s seen many owners come and go, it has never once been closed and remained loyal to its customers.

Rao’s offers a totally unique experience to its customers, and they even provide bakery camps for the kids to take part in during the summer.

The staff here show a genuine commitment to the cakes they produce, the service they provide, and generally keeping their clients as happy as possible, which I guess is one of the reasons why people go back time and time again.

You can place your orders online for custom-made cakes, but as I’ve said, to ensure you’re getting exactly what you want, I find it always best to go in the shop or pop them a call to discuss everything you need.

4. Nothing Bundt Cakes

Let these guys take away the stress of your occasion by leaving your cake in their capable hands. Here, you can choose from 10 different base flavors and then have them customize it however you’d like. As well as being able to give them your own personal design, they also have over 60 unique designs of their own, so if you’re not sure precisely what you want, you can choose this to help inspire you.

This cake shop has been open since 1977; over the years, they have grown so much and been so successful that they now have more than 430 locations across the United States and Canada.

While they still use traditional methods, over time, they have put a modern twist on how they make and design their cakes mainly to keep up with the times and keep their clients interested with fresh ideas.

Despite so many locations, all their cakes are still lovingly handcrafted or made to order.

As well as ordering your cake from here, you can purchase merchandise, such as party supplies, gifts, and decor. So this place really is a one-stop shop when it comes to a special occasion.

5. The Divine Cake

Tel(832) 954-2733

If what you want most out of your cake’s exquisite flavor and fine ingredients, then Divine Cake is the place for you.

This place has been built upon the grounds and traditions of some of the oldest European bakeries.

One of the things that makes them so incredibly popular is their famous creamy sauce, which is a secret recipe unique to them. It’s like no other flavor you will have had before in any cake anywhere.

Their signature trait here is that their cakes are topped with fresh berries, such as raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, and strawberries, making them exceptionally fresh and luxurious. But of course, all of the cakes can be customized however you like, and not only that, they can be promptly delivered straight to your destination, meaning there is no running around at the last minute trying to pick it up while organizing the rest of your birthday party.

6. Bianca’s Custom Cakes

Tel (832) 705-9391

At Bianca’s cakes, it doesn’t matter what the occasion is; these guys do their best to make the whole process of selecting, designing, and ordering your custom cake an easy task. You have the option to look through some of their previous designs and choose one of those, or also, if you already have something in mind, they will work with you to design exactly what you want.

At this cake shop, they take extra care and a lot of time and patience to make sure that their customers are impressed with what they receive in the end. Here, you’re guaranteed to walk out a satisfied customer, whether it’s for a children’s party or an adult’s special birthday.

One benefit I noticed when doing my research is that, unlike other custom cake shops, they offer an online price guide, so you can gauge whether your cake will be within your budget without having to contact them directly.

To get a better idea of how their pricing works, you should check out their website, but to give you a rough idea, they seem to work their pricing out according to the level of detail required, how many layers, and how many servings, and what shape the cake is.

So, for instance, tiered cakes, with one of their most popular designs, work out at $6.00 – $8.00 per serving. So, the minimum price for a single-tiered cake would be $125.00, and the minimum for a two-tiered cake would be $240. Hopefully, this gives you a rough idea about what you can expect to spend.

7. Sweet Art Cake Designs

Tel(281) 923-3866

First opened in 2010, they have grown tremendously as the years have gone on. I think this is because of their dedication and willingness to support local businesses by sourcing the majority of their ingredients from as close to home as they can.

The sky truly is the limit at this custom cake design shop. They offer absolutely everything when it comes to special occasions, custom-made cakes. Whether it’s a large novelty birthday cake you’re after for a child’s party or handcrafted cupcakes for teens who are a little old for a cartoon cake.

This is another shop that offers an online price guide, so if you have got an idea of what you want in terms of size and layers, then you can get a pretty good idea about what your cake will cost when it’s finished. However, make sure you confirm with bakers beforehand, as different decors, embellishments, etc., can put the price up quite considerably if you’re not careful.

The starting price of all their cakes, no matter the size, is $75.00, tiered and layered cakes then go up in price accordingly, which works out at $4.00 per serving, and fondant add-ons are $5.50 per serving. The starting price for all carved or 3D cakes is $175, and then you add on what you want from there, so hopefully, that gives you a bit of an idea.
