Some of the spots in my guide are just a short distance away from Houston, but all are less than an hour’s drive, and let’s face it, it’s worth an hour in the car to make memories with your loved one and I promise you, they’ll be worth the trip.

So let’s look at my top picks for the best sunflower fields in and around Houston.

1. P-6 Farms

Other AttractionsPumpkin patch, fairground rides, flower fields, pets corner.

P-6 Farms in Montgomery is probably one of the best in Texas regarding their sunflower field.

The sunflower field here is beautiful; you can spend hours strolling through the rows and rows of beautiful flowers. If you want to pick any blooms, the cost is $3.00 per flower, and it’s best to check availability before you head over, as they sometimes limit the picking. There is also blackberry picking available.

Aside from having a vast and impressive field full of sunflowers during the spring and early summer, they have so much to offer in terms of family fun and activities. These include cool vintage fairground rides, like a mini Ferris wheel, a small roller coaster, and a cow train.

There is also duck racing, a tire mountain, a roller slide, and Poole’s Peak playground.

Tickets have to be purchased in advance online, so check their website for events and availability

2. Neal’s Berry Farm

Other AttractionsGoat feeding, picnic tables, strawberry picking, pony rides, paint-a-pot.

Neal’s berry farm is just a 40-minute drive from Houston and has everything you can want in terms of sunflower picking and an all-around fun day out with the family.

The farm is open from May until August, and there is plenty for picking aside from the Sunflowers, such as all kinds of fruit and vegetables, zinnias, figs, and juicy blackberries.

They have an on-site farmers market, where you can purchase home-grown watermelons and cantaloupes, as well as plenty of other produce from the farm.

During the season for sunflowers, there are also fun activities that the whole family can enjoy, such as goat feeding and pony rides.

The price for sunflower picking is $5.00 for your entry and then $2.00 per flower picked. Of course, availability can be limited depending on how early in the year you visit. The last chance for sunflower picking is the 4th of July, and after that, the farm is closed until September, when it reopens for its fall festivities.

3. Froberg’s Farm and Country Store

Other AttractionsVegetable pickings, corn maze, fall festivals, bakery, smokehouse

The sunflower side of things isn’t something that Froberg advertises. I think this may be because their availability is quite limited, but it is something they offer between you and me, and their sunflower trail is an excellent part of the day out here at Froberg’s Farm.

Of course, like anything else, all their picking activities are seasonal, so it’s probably best to check with them before you visit to avoid disappointment. In my opinion, there is so much other stuff to do that it would be hard to be disappointed with this place.

Aside from picking your produce and strolling around their rows of beautiful sunflowers, there is also a bakery where you can purchase some fantastic homemade pies, such as pumpkin pies made using their home-grown pumpkins. You can also buy homemade preserves, peanut brittle, caramel popcorn, and frosted pecans.

They have a list of family-sized pies which can be pre-ordered and come in 35 different flavors, such as tart cherry, lemon cream, and apple.

They also have a smokehouse situated on-site, where they dry-cure their own meats and make homemade sausages. They also sell Boudin, cheese, and stuffed pork chops.

Other activities at Froberg’s include the corn maze, which is available during the fall festival, where you can go and pick your own pumpkin, and the mining sluice. This is a water tower that releases water down a chute and allows you to forage through it for hidden treasures. It’s great fun!

The farm is open from 8:00 am till 6:00 pm seven days a week, all year round, excluding holidays, so there is plenty more to see and do even if you’ve missed out on the sunflower picking.

4. Dewberry Farm

Other AttractionsFestivals, tractor rides, Christmas trees, blaster cannons, gemstone mining, paintball, slide mountain, sports zone.

Dewberry Farm is probably the most exciting one in my guide regarding activities. You’re guaranteed an action-packed day out here, especially if you’re taking the kids, though even for the big kids, there is still plenty to do.

The sunflower picking is available from May through till June, and the sights of red and glowing yellows are amazing to look at across the fields. They have over 25 different sunflower varieties and even hold an annual sunflower festival. If you’re planning on attending, be sure to contact them directly for exact times, as this isn’t always advertised on their website.

Aside from the flower picking, there is so much other stuff to do that I would be here all day trying to tell you about it but to give you a brief idea about what’s on offer. For the kids, there is mining, a black hole, a barnyard where they can meet and greet the animals, and also a carousel, candy cannon, and corn maze. There is even a goat hotel! I know, right?

You won’t go hungry either, with food stalls selling BBQ meats, ice creams, turkey legs, funnel cakes, and drinks stalls where you can get lemonade, wine, and beers.
