5 Amazing Hotels in Uptown Houston

Although I stay all over Houston when I visit friends and family, see the sights, or work in business, there’s something that always draws me back to the Uptown area, time and time again.

Would I say it’s my favorite part of Houston? Quite possibly. Then again, there are so many amazing districts in this vibrant city it’s really hard to pick a favorite.

As I have spent so much time here, I thought it was only right that I put my knowledge of the hotels in Uptown, Houston, to good use by sharing them with people like you who might be planning a trip to this energetic and eclectic part of the city.

Lucky for you, I’m a good little investigator on the quiet, and during any stay, I am always on the lookout for what makes a hotel worth your hard-earned money and which offers the best experience.

I’ve made a note of the price per night for each hotel, but it’s important for you to remember that this is just a rough idea; when you visit and the room you choose, etc., it can all affect the price.

1. The Chifley Houston – Tapestry Collection by Hilton

Prepare to be spoilt for choice in terms of shopping, dining, sightseeing, and everything else when you stay at The Chiflet Houston because this hotel is right in the heart of all the best attributes of Uptown Houston, including Houston’s most significant shopping center, The Galleria.

The sophisticated neighborhood of River Oaks is just 20 minutes away if you’re driving too, meaning you’re in close proximity to one of the most affluent areas of Houston.

There’s a stunning restaurant on-site called Rouse. It’s a fusion restaurant, combining Mexican cuisine with Asian gastronomy and classic BBQ flavors. It’s super unique and an amazing place to dine. It’s even better when you don’t have to leave the building to get your hands on it.

Other amenities at this cozy home-from-from include a swimming pool, kids’ activities, and a fitness center, and they’re even pet-friendly, so why not bring the dog along for a little vay-cay?

2. Hotel Granduca Houston

I realize you might be a little taken aback at first glance by the price of this hotel, but after my stay here, I couldn’t add it to my guide about the best hotels in Uptown Houston.

So, perhaps save this one for a special occasion.

Hotel Granduca sure lives up to its name when it comes to grandeur and exquisite design, service, and presentation. It will just blow your mind from the minute you arrive. You’ll feel like you’ve walked onto the set of an Audrey Hepburn movie. Or perhaps that was just me?

The rooms are just incredibly beautiful as the rest of the hotel, with private balconies, stylish, vintage-looking kitchenettes, and lavish furnishings, including some extremely high-quality linens.

If you’re looking to lodge in luxury, I can’t think of a better place than The Granduca.

3. Hampton Inn Houston

If you like the feeling of home comforts when you’re on vacation, then the Hampton Inn by Hilton in Houston might be what you’ve been looking for.

Not only is the location of this hotel perfect, being close to all the best amenities, but the hotel itself has so much to offer you might never want to leave.

If you’re here on business, then you’ll be well-equipped for work with a lavish business center, fast internet speeds, and also the rooms have a comfortable allocated workspace.

However, let’s say you’re traveling here for a family vacation; you’ll be even more impressed because kids stay free, saving you a massive chunk of your outlay for the trip. This also means you’ll have extra spending for more exciting parts of your stay, including visiting the Museum District and other nearby attractions.

The rooms are well-equipped with everything you need, including blackout curtains, air-conditioning, cable TV, and a coffee maker. I can’t sing about the views too much, as they were mainly of the parking lot. However, you can see the city from your window. I suppose it depends on where your room is.

4. Hotel Derek Houston Galleria

I’ve stayed at Hotel Derek on many occasions at this point, and I have loved every single experience so far.

No matter how often I visit, I’m always struck by the amazing interior and splendid decor around the hotel, not just in the lobby but throughout. It’s quirky and unique, and there’s tons of artwork to catch your eye around every corner.

Without a shadow of a doubt, my absolute favorite thing about this place is the rooftop pool. It even has a poolside bar. I could easily (and have done) lose hours up there gazing out over the Houston skyline with a cocktail in hand and without a care. I mean, how are you meant to drag yourself away?

There’s a regal restaurant on-site, too, another of my highlights. You’ll sample some amazing dishes here, and there’s also a magnificent breakfast cooked daily that’s included with the price of your room. 

5. The Post Oak Hotel Uptown Houston

You can tell as soon as you pull up outside this hotel that you’re in for something special. It’s impressive.

The lobby is stunning before you even get any further, and as soon I walked in, I was welcomed by a couple of smiling members of staff, which always makes a great first impression.

I was thrilled to be staying there when I was shown to my room. On this occasion, I had spent a bit more to upgrade to a suite. I owed myself a treat, which was past due.

The room was huge, and so was the bed; I almost got lost in it, and boy, oh boy, was it comfortable. It was the best night’s sleep I’ve had for a long, long time.

Right across the street, I stumbled across Mastros Steakhouse, where I enjoyed one of the best steaks I’ve ever eaten. I’ve already booked another table for a couple of months’ time when I’m next in town! It was awesome.

Coming back to the hotel, I needed a way to burn off the copious amounts of meat I’d consumed the night before, so I checked out the gym. There was a good selection of up-to-date equipment; it certainly had everything I needed for a morning workout anyway.
