Our recommendationAward-Winning Combination Tacos with refried beans, spinach, sausage, and pico de gallo

Tacos A Go-Go opened in 2006, with a somewhat quiet start but a strong belief in good old-fashioned no-fuss cooking, rustic recipes, and flavors. And then they would stand out and grab people’s attention, and boy, oh boy, they did just that.

In all of their four locations, you can be sure to find some of the best tacos in town. Starting with their most famous, Award-Winning Breakfast Taco; and over a million combinations of the same, you can easily have something different every single time you go. So you’ll never get bored of visiting.

Also, be sure to check out the “breakfast platos,” these are served right through to the evening, and consist of a burrito, spicy scrambled egg with jalapenos and chorizo, and their famous soft tacos with egg made your way, with beans and grilled potatoes. Delicious!

There were many to choose from when it came to vegetarian and vegan dishes. The veg options were almost as plentiful as the standard menu. With everything from quesadillas, burritos, tacos, salad bowls, and the mix and match breakfast.

The prices at this restaurant are very reasonable. The breakfast tacos are under $5.00, and the larger plates all-around $10. You will be surprised at the quality of the food you receive for the price.

They have a small drinks menu, including a couple of quirky items such as buckets of beer and frozen Palomas.

There is, unfortunately, no parking at taco’s a Go Go, so please bear this in mind if you choose them for your breakfast. But we can guarantee it’s worth the walk from your car.

Our RecommendationEgg and Jimmy Dean Breakfast Tacos

Established in 2007, the Myers family bought together a fusion of Texan and Monterrey flavors, creating a menu that is now a favorite of the locals and visitors to The Heights on 19th Street.

First of all, we tried some of the classic breakfast tacos. They have all the classics you can expect: beans and cheese, egg and chorizo, and a couple of show stoppers. Our’s favorite was the Egg and Jimmy Dean. But as well as that, we would also highly recommend the Chilaquiles Taco, which is fried tortillas with green tomato salsa, red guajillo salsa, and shredded cheese. If you’ve got a flair for spice, try the Migas Tacos.

Their menu is quite extensive. And although there wasn’t a separate menu for vegetarians, there were undoubtedly enough options included in the main menu for veggies and vegans alike. The staff also appeared to be very accommodating and are happy to adapt to any other requirements.

When it comes to the prices, it is exceptionally low. The cheapest breakfast taco is priced at only $2.95.

There is a small selection of alcohol-free beverages, plus coffee.

3. Torchy’s Tacos

FoodBreakfast tacos, fajitas, cocktails
Our RecommendationJalapeno Cheddar Sausage, Egg and Cheese Breakfast Taco

One of the first attractions to Torchy’s is their eye-catching themed branding. Once this has pulled you in, you’ll be just as taken aback by the standard of food they have to offer. What makes them even more appealing is the fact that they pride themselves on responsible and sustainable sourcing of all their ingredients.

Torchy’s is a profoundly taco-based restaurant, so if you’re dining with anyone who wants to peruse the menu for other options, they won’t find much on offer here. But you can request the dishes “taco-less.”

There were seven options on the breakfast menu, and we tried a good handful of them. While they were all packed full of flavor and perfectly cooked, the jalapeno cheddar sausage was the winner for us.

Although, if you don’t like spice, perhaps not for you, so in that case, we say you go for the classic potato, egg, and cheese. Classical and done beautifully.

Only a small handful of vegetarian options are available: the potato, egg, and cheese (recommended above) and the Migas. There is only one veggie dish on the main menu as well.

They have calorie contents on all their menu items, which will appeal to anyone keeping an eye on their intake.

Torchy’s prices are entirely in keeping with our other recommendations, with all the breakfast tacos ranging from $2.95 to $5.00 a dish.

They have a brilliant selection of frozen margaritas, coffee, tea, soft drinks, and other cocktails.

FoodBreakfast tacos, quesadilla, barbacoa
Our RecommendationPapa a la Mexicana

Azteca is a family-run taco restaurant serving authentic Mexican cuisine with unique home-cooked recipes and ingredients. It is known as one of Houstons’ “hidden gems.”

With its quirky Mexican interior and fun crockery, it all comes together to form a fantastic Mexican feeling experience when you sit down to enjoy your tacos.

The staff were fun, helpful, and extremely welcoming and made us feel at home the moment we walked in. Besides the ambiance, the tacos were some of the best. With everything mouthful, you got a burst of flavor and spices. Every dish is made to order from scratch with a true passion for quality.

There are a couple of vegetarian options on the menu. Once again, the servers and chefs are very accommodating and happy to help with anything to make your dining experience just right for you, so don’t be shy to ask about their menu. There is a children’s menu and a small drinks menu.

The prices are fantastic, with most breakfast tacos priced at just $1.99. So somewhere, you can easily indulge on a budget or splash out and try one of everything.

5. Bodegas Taco Shop

FoodBreakfast tacos, buffalo wings, burger, fried chicken
Our RecommendationBuild your own breakfast taco

Bodegas Taco Shop is situated within the same block of seven of Houston’s most popular museums, making it a top destination for visitors, museum regulars, and tourists.

It is worth getting down there early, before your museum visit. This is because they only serve their breakfast tacos until 9:30 am. But, rest assured it’ll be worth the wake-up call.

You can pick three ingredients to make the “build your own” breakfast taco, with a choice of meat, fillings, and premium toppings. We went for the fajita beef steak with Monterey jack cheese and pico de gallo, which is highly recommended. However, we are sure you’ll find your perfect combination.

If you end up missing the early morning cut-off for the breakfast tacos, however, don’t fret; we still recommend visiting them for the other things on offer. The pulled pork and the chicken wings were popular with the regulars and went down a treat with our guests.

There wasn’t a vast choice when it came to the veggie options, although in the build your own section, there was an option to swap out the meat for vegetables instead. There also didn’t appear to be a kids’ menu, but there was plenty available that would suit the little ones.

They have an excellent choice of combo meals, and the prices are very reasonable; you can get an entire meal with a side and drink included for under $10.

Our RecommendationTaquito De Langosta

Now, we’re ending our guide on a different restaurant-style and something a little more special. Although upon first looking, this may not seem like somewhere you would call in for breakfast tacos when visiting Houston. And if you happen to be in the area on a Saturday or Sunday, and feel like treating yourself, make sure you pop into Hugos.

They serve an exquisite brunch menu on weekends, with many classical and elegant dishes. But amongst these dishes, you’ll find a couple of unique taco options too. One of these that stood out to us was the lobster, the one which we have recommended above. It is served with frijoles refritos, pico de gallo, and fresh avocado.

Hugos have won an outstanding amount of awards and titles for their food, restaurants, service, and general quality, and it is clear to see why once you’ve dined here.

They have an extensive vegetarian menu, where you’ll find many of the dishes that can also be suited to a vegan diet.

The pricing here is most definitely the most expensive that we visited, but this was clear before we’d even entered the restaurant and why we had to try it. Hugo’s is something entirely different from your usual expectations when you think of somewhere to get tacos. This is for sure, Mexican dining at its finest. The ingredients are fresh, and you can feel the quality in every bite.

There is no children’s menu here, and perhaps it is a little expensive for the younger diners in general who want good old-fashioned tacos.

And So To Summarize
