Whether you’re looking to savor the local American dishes’ flavors or fancy something more exotic, there’s something for everyone.

Houston is one of my favorite cities, not just in Texas but in the whole of the U.S.

In fact, I spend more time there than some of the locals. I’m always in town, visiting family, traveling for work, and, most importantly, eating and sightseeing.

Houston is full of energy and has a great vibe, and aside from that, it has some of the best restaurants around.

During a recent visit to Houston, I was lucky enough to stay in the homely little neighborhood of Braeswood Place. And lucky for you, I got to do my fair share of dining out during my stay.

This is why I thought it would be constructive for you to learn about the best restaurants in Braeswood Place, Houston, so the next time you pass through, you know just where to stop for a decent feed.

Best Restaurants in Braeswood Place, Houston – My Top Picks

Throughout this guide, you’ll learn about what I thought of each Braeswood Place restaurant, and I’ve looked at so much more than just the food.

I have been keeping a close eye on the service, checking out which places I think are the best value for money, and also analyzing the menus closely to see if they cater to those with dietary requirements.

Lastly, I’ve reviewed the location. Some of these places may be slightly outside of Braeswood Place itself. However, not to worry because they’re all within walking distance.

Okay, let’s inspect these restaurants closer and plan your next meal out in Braeswood Place.

1. Snooze, an A.M. Eatery

Snooze, an A.M. Eatery
Address3217 Montrose Blvd Suite 100, Houston, TX 77006, United States
Websitewww.snoozeeatery.com
FoodCocktails, omelets, benedicts, french toast, pancakes, tacos, sandwiches
My RecommendationJuan’s Breakfast tacos

Snooze, an A.M. Eatery, is a breakfast and brunch restaurant in Braeswood Place, Houston.

The restaurant-come-diner serves up classic dishes with a contemporary twist.

They have a variety of pancakes, egg benedicts, and breakfast sandwiches.

They also have many unique items, like their famous Spuds Deluxe and the Habanero Pork Belly Breakfast Fried Rice.

Have you ever thought of having pasta for breakfast? I bet you haven’t, but here you can. The Love E-Lote Breakfast Pasta is a killer dish with homemade sauce, bell peppers, asparagus, and corn, and all topped with a runny egg, cheese, and chili-lime seasoning!

They also have a great selection of coffee and cocktails to accompany your brunch, like a Bloody Mary with Kimchi, or Thai Bloody Mary, amongst others. For instance, I’d advise the Morning Margarita if you prefer something with a little more refreshing zest.

During my most recent visit, I decided to go for something a little more standard for a breakfast choice, the tacos. These come filled with scrambled eggs, hash browns, cheese, pico de gallo, and spicy hollandaise.

However, on this occasion, I upgraded by adding extra toppings, which you can do with most items on the menu. I added jalapenos, chicken sausage, and ham. It was a perfect combination.

Snooze A.M. prides itself on providing responsibly sourced produce and free-range organic ingredients wherever possible. Something which I look for more and more in this day and age.

Oh, and if you’re after vegetarian options, you won’t be stuck for a choice. There are loads available, such as the Huevos Tostadas and the Smashed Avocado Benny.

If you’re looking for a delicious breakfast spot in Houston, Snooze A.M. is definitely worth checking out!

2. Taro Japanese Restaurant and Bar

Address8216 Kirby Drive, Houston, TX 77054
Websitewww.taroramen.com
FoodJapanese, sushi, ramen, noodles, tempura, gyoza, miso soup, sashimi
My RecommendationAngry Bird Special Roll

I knew I was in for a memorable dining experience when I started digging around about the history of the exec chef here. Fumuio Shumojuma can’t be beaten in my eyes when it comes to Japanese cuisine, at least not within miles of Taro Restaurant.

The chef here has been working, studying, and cooking up a storm in some of the best restaurants in Japan for over 30 years, so to say “he has experience” is a massive understatement.

So, if you’re looking for some of the best ramen, sushi, or Japanese curry in Houston, you’ve just found it.

Sushi has to be one of my favorite things to eat when I’m dining out, so I was over the moon when I came across this place, and let me tell you, it exceeded any expectations I had.

It was obvious that all the food here was of the highest quality, but the sushi and sashimi, in particular, you would think had just been bought fresh from a fishing boat. You could literally taste the sea (in a good way, of course).

Regarding the prices here, it’s hard to say. As you probably know, fresh seafood and well-made sushi come at a price if you want quality. However, while some may see this place as a little pricey, I actually thought it was incredibly reasonable, so I guess that’s for you to be the judge. Maybe it depends on how much of a hardcore sushi lover you really are.

As with most Japanese menus, you can find something no matter what your dietary requirements are; just take the plunge, don’t hesitate, and head on down.

Overall, this is a fabulous restaurant with friendly staff, great food, and a wonderful vibe, and I would recommend it for any occasion.

3. Common Bond Bistro & Bakery

Common Bond Bistro & Bakery
Address1706 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77006, United States
Website www.commonbondbistro.com
FoodBakery, breakfast, coffee, croissants, sandwiches
My RecommendationBaked Brie with Jalapeno Jam

Common Bond Bistro and Bakery is an excellent spot to catch up with friends over a pastry, coffee, or hot meal.

The overall atmosphere in this restaurant is vibrant and bustling. However, it’s cozy and quiet enough to enjoy a chat without having to speak over the crowds.

They’re open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 7:00 am to 9:00 pm, and various menu items are available at different times throughout the day.

There are many specialties here that I could rave about all day long. Their dishes are so unique and piquant; they really stand out from anything you’ll find anywhere else.

For example, the Baked Brie was delicious. This one is baked inside a golden puff pastry, perfectly melted into a ball of oozing goodness, and served with a spicy jalapeno jam. And not the standard kind you’ll have had in other restaurants.

Aside from the amazing (but naughty) cheese balls, there are also dishes such as the Beef & Guinness Pie, which is filled with slow-cooked beef, carrots, celery, and onions topped with a buttery croissant pastry.

The Nashville Shrimp are also delicious, and the Chicken Banh Mi will have your mouth watering with fresh herbs, pickles, and a toasted baguette.

The prices are so reasonable here. I was really impressed. You can pick up a large course for between $11.00 and $16.00.

Whatever you’re visiting here for, breakfast, lunch, or dinner, there’s one thing you must do, and that’s to take home a pistachio pastry. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

For the kiddie winks, there are plenty of choices, like flatbread, cheesy grits sliders, and grilled cheese, amongst other items.

4. Dandelion Cafe

Address5405 Bellaire Boulevard, Houston, TX 77401
Websitehttps://www.dandelionhouston.com/
FoodBreakfast, omelet, paninis, salad, sandwiches, French toast, bagels
My RecommendationBagel and Lox

Dandelion Cafe is a delightful location for a spot of lunch. It has a real community vibe and brings happiness to the locals of Braeswood Place and surrounding areas, as well as attracting guests from all over.

And it’s clear to see why.

Aside from the welcoming atmosphere and harmonious setting, the best thing about Dandelion Cafe is definitely the amazing food.

The cafe has been running since 2016 and has become a community hub where friends gather, and families create memories over high-quality meals.

The great prices are among the most appealing things about the menu here. It’s so cheap, yet has the best quality of food you will have. For example, you can get a full breakfast taco for just $4.25, filled with egg, cheese, meat, or spinach.

My recommendation was the Bagel and Lox. I was feeling healthy that day, so I opted for something a little less naughty than my common breakfast choices. This came with a smoked salmon bagel, cream cheese, capers, red onions, and salad with fresh dill, and it only costed me $14.00.

There’s a lovely sweet selection, such as buttermilk pancakes, blueberry lemon curd French toast, yogurt, and granola.

The cafe opens at 7:00 am and closes at 4:00 pm, so, unfortunately, it isn’t open for dinner.

They have indoor and outdoor seating with plenty of space, and I have never seen anyone waiting for a table for long, even during rush hour. The restaurant is dog-friendly. However, you and your canine will have to dine alfresco.

5. Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken – Houston

Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken – Houston
Address1815 Washington Ave, Houston, TX 77007, United States
Websitewww.gusfriedchicken.com
FoodFried Chicken, corn, beans, slaw
My RecommendationFried Chicken and Pickle Spears with Mac and Cheese

I’m sure I don’t need to go into too much detail about what these guys sell, especially not in terms of food. Of course, it’s a fried chicken shop, but not just any chicken shop; it’s a world-famous chicken shop.

So, as you’d expect, the fried chicken here is definitely top-notch.

I can say with confidence that this will be some of the best fried chicken you’ve ever tasted. Imagine the crispiest batter that’s perfectly seasoned in every sense of the word, and the moment you start eating it, you experience the tastiest and most moist chicken you’ve ever had.

The vibes in this restaurant are very chilled, and it is a casual dining kind of place. More the kind of spot you’d swing by on a whim. I can’t quite imagine spending a special occasion here. However, if you’re on a hunt for amazing fried chicken, there’s nowhere else to be.

If you’re a vegetarian, you might struggle a little bit. So unless you’re happy with filling up on sides of mac and cheese, beans, and coleslaw, you might want to head elsewhere. In their defense, though, the slaw is probably some of the best I’ve ever tasted. The seasoned fries are also delicious.

Price-wise, I just couldn’t complain one bit. $13.00 for three pieces of chicken, two sides, and some slices of white bread, you can’t go wrong.

6. The Original Morningside Thai

The Original Morningside Thai

Address2473A S Braeswood Boulevard, Houston, TX 77030

FoodThai, soup, spring rolls, green curry, seafood, noodles
My RecommendationTiger Cry

I always think that when you’re choosing somewhere to enjoy Thai cuisine, it needs to be somewhere as authentic as possible, and some places just don’t cut the mustard as they try too hard to cater to the American palate.

So, if it’s authenticity you’re looking for, as well as outstandingly good food, this is where you want to be.

The restaurant has been open for around 20 years, which I think always speaks volumes about a place.

To begin with, all of the servers here were friendly and welcoming from the get-go and made us feel extremely comfortable. Despite it being our first visit, my group and I were all made to feel right at home.

Our waiter talked us through the menu and made some recommendations, which can also be helpful, especially if you need more time with huge menus like me.

Quite often, I pick a curry or Pad Thai from Thai restaurants. However, on this occasion, I decided to go off-piste and went for the Tiger Cry and boy, I am glad I did! The dish was made with flank steak, cooked to perfection, with a rich, savory sauce on the side and some fresh salad.

There are plenty of choices for any veggies out there, a vegan friend of mine ordered the Vegetable Happy Bhu-Dha, which looked and smelled delicious, and they were more than pleased with it.

Regarding the prices, I thought it was pretty average, to say the least. My steak main course cost under $20.00, and there was certainly a fair portion for the price. The veggie dish was only $12.95. Bargain for the portion size they received.
