1. The Houston Club

The Houston Club
Address: 910 Louisiana St Ste 4900 Houston, TX 77002
Website:https://www.clubcorp.com/clubs/the-houston-club
Food: Sharing plates, chicken, seafood, salads, sandwiches, burgers
Our Recommendation: Five Spiced Skuna Bay Salmon

The Houston Club has an incredible view of the city. Located atop One Shell Plaza, you can see the Houston skyline and enjoy some delicious food at the same time. It’s close to the Theatre District, making it an excellent choice for a special night out. It also offers delivery for their lunch menu.

The food is amazing. You can choose a sharing plate, like the Cougar Paw Tempura Chicken Bites or the Blackened Shrimp. They have some handheld food, too, like sandwiches, burgers, and sliders. We’d recommend the Five Spiced Skuna Bay Salmon with Japanese rice cake, baby bok choy, and ponzu broth.

The pricing is average for this kind of restaurant, with main meals at around $20. The lunchtime menu has some lower-priced options, including soups or salads for under $10.

There are plenty of drinks to choose from in their well-stocked bar.

They have some vegetarian and vegan options, including some delicious salads.

2. Brenner’s on the Bayou

Brenner's on the Bayou
Address: 1 Birdsall St Houston, TX 77007
Website:https://www.brennerssteakhouse.com/
Food: Sharing plates, soups, salads, steak, seafood
Our Recommendation: Wild Boar Rack

Brenner’s On the Bayou is a beautiful, romantic restaurant in Houston. Located on the Buffalo Bayou, you’ll have an incredible view, with large windows to allow you to gaze out as you eat.

There are many options here for meals. For something special, try the wild boar rack (with caramelized onion marmalade, marbled potatoes, and raclette). On the other hand, you could go for a sharing plate, like gulf oysters on the half shell (with champagne mignonette and cocktail sauce).

The desserts are amazing too. Try the butterscotch creme brulee with creamy custard and seasonal berries or the delicious German coffee cake.

The pricing is what you’d expect from a fancy restaurant, with mains ranging from $30-50, going up to $75. Valet is required and costs $4.

They have a well-stocked bar with a great selection of wines, covering a wide price range.

It’s not the best place to go for vegetarians, as they don’t have a huge amount of veggie food available, although they do offer some soups and salads and some excellent sides.

3. The Bay Patio

The Bay Patio
Address: 3901 Nasa Rd 1 Waters Edge El Lago, TX 77586
Website:https://www.thebaypatio.com/
Food: Brunch food, salads, burgers, chicken, fish, spaghetti
Our Recommendation: The Bay Burger

The Bay Patio is a reasonably-priced restaurant with a gorgeous view of Clear Lake. A great spot for brunch and dinner, it has a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.

The menu isn’t huge, but the food is great. The Bay Burger (¼ pound smash burger with American cheese, lettuce, red onion, and house-made burger sauce with potato chips) is delicious. In addition, they have some comforting food, including spaghetti and meatballs and fish tacos.

They have a good brunch menu too if you want to go out to eat in the daytime. They have buttermilk pancakes, toast, tacos, and breakfast sandwiches.

The price point is really good considering the view you’re getting, with mains coming in at around $15 and starters for less than $10.

You can get a nice drink or two here, including specialty cocktails like the Bay Sunrise (Casamigos, orange juice, and shaken grenadine) and the Jack Smash (Jack Daniels, club soda, blueberries, and mint). You can grab a beer here too, and they have soda and juice if you want something non-alcoholic.

It has few vegetarian options on the dinner menu, so you may want to keep looking if you’re after a veggie or vegan dinner. They do have some great vegetarian choices in the brunch menu, though.

4. Z on 23 Rooftop

Z on 23 Rooftop
Address: 1121 Walker St Fl 23 Zutro Restaurant Houston, TX 77002
Website:https://www.zutrorestaurant.com/
Food: Sliders, burgers, bar bites
Our Recommendation: Z Chicken Sandwich

Z on 23 Rooftop has an incredible view of Houston. You can eat some classic American comfort food on the rooftop bar, or you can get a main meal in the more formal restaurant indoors. It’s a great place to go for a date or with friends.

The food on the rooftop is more casual. Think chicken wings, sweet and spicy shrimp, burgers, and sliders. The Z Chicken Sandwich (herb-marinated grilled chicken breast, lettuce, tomato, onion, sliced pickles, and remoulade sauce) is delicious.

If you want to eat in a more formal restaurant, there are more options, including bone-in ribeye and Spanish chicken stew.

The rooftop food is a little cheaper, with decent portions for around $20, and the restaurant inside has slightly higher prices (around $20-30 for the main meal).

The bar has some amazing cocktails. Try the Pineapple Rum Swizzle, the Skyline Smash, or the Z Old Fashioned. You can get beer and wine here too.

There aren’t many veggie options here. All the rooftop meals involve meat or fish, so it’s one to avoid if you have a vegetarian in your group.

5. Gauchos Do Sul

Gauchos Do Sul
Address: 3995 Westheimer Rd Fl 3 Houston, TX 77027
Website:https://gauchosdosul.com/
Food: Beef, pork, lamb, chicken, salad, sides
Our Recommendation: South American Pork Sausage

Gauchos Do Sul offers some incredibly cooked meat with a gorgeous view of Houston from large windows. It’s classy but not too dressy, so you can choose if you want to get dressed up or go slightly more casual.

They offer unlimited tableside service of different cuts of meat. For example, you can order South American pork sausage (Argentinian sausage with incredible flavor), Picanah (top sirloin seasoned with rock salt), or parmesan chicken (seasoned with lemon pepper and topped with melted parmesan cheese).

Alongside the meat, you can choose from their gourmet salad bar and side dishes. They have some great desserts here too. Try the tres leches (sponge cake soaked in a sweet milk mixture, topped with whipped cream, caramel sauce, and strawberries). You can try this with their flame liquor for something extra special.

It’s a little more pricey, with dinner costing $68.50 per person or salad bar only for $39.50 per person. Kids 6 and under go free, though, and kids aged 7-12 cost $34.40 per person.

Drinks-wise, they have some delicious after-dinner cocktails, wine, and beer. Of course, they have a bar menu here, too, with some lighter food to go with drinks.

Vegetarians can choose a salad bar meal, but the main star of the show is the meat.

6. Upstairs Bar and Lounge

Upstairs Bar and Lounge
Address: 2356 Rice Blvd Fl 2 Houston, TX 77005
Website:https://upstairsbarandlounge.com/
Food: Pasta, fish, chicken, salads, sandwiches, wraps, pizzas, burgers
Our Recommendation: Nurtured Falafel Bowl

Upstairs Bar and Lounge is a busy, bustling spot perfect for groups of friends or a date night. It has a gorgeous view of Houston, and you can eat from a treetop terrace for a night to remember.

They have a wide variety of food here, from comforting classics like penne bolognese, pizzas, or burgers, to honey ginger salmon or gorgeous salads. They have some lighter options, including wraps and sandwiches.

The pricing is pretty good, with main meals coming in at around $15-20.

The drinks are delicious at the Upstairs Bar and Lounge. They have an excellent range of craft beers and wine, scotch, and bourbons. They have a range of cocktails too, like the blackberry ginger margarita or the blueberry basil lemonade.
