1. The Music Box Theater

Show Times7:30 pm
Admission Price• General Admission: $35.00
• Reserved Seating: $48.00

The Music Box Theater has been open since 2011 and has become a famous musical theater in Houston. Aside from the music, many people need to realize that they also host fantastic comedy nights and other entertainment, such as cabaret shows.

This is an excellent venue with a relaxing, chilled-out vibe, making it a great spot to hang out with friends while enjoying some great comedy over a couple of drinks.

There are only seven comedy nights held annually, so it’s worth checking their website for dates and getting your tickets purchased early to make sure you get all the tickets.

Comedy nights are usually based on musical themes, so if you’re a lover of music, then these are a great way you get a musical fix while having a good laugh at the same time.

They don’t have a great deal regarding food, just simple bar snacks such as cookies, savory snacks, cheese and crackers, and cake, but they’re all under $5.00 and enough to get you through the show.

You can also purchase a bucket of beer, which will save you from having to keep going back to the bar during the show. These are just $25.00 and include five bottles of beer.

Show Times8:00 pm
Admission Price$14.00 - $20.00

ComedySportz is a great spot where budding and well-experienced comedians can battle it out to be the champion in front of Houston’s locals and visitors.

The competitions have been running at ComedySportz since 1984 but have only been performing for the Houston public since 1990. This is a brilliant night of entertainment if you’re looking for non-stop laughter.

Being the longest-running comedy show in Houston, this club is an excellent venue for any corporate event or group night out, and it’s a great way to bring a crowd together. They are actually one of the top venues for team-building workshops in the city.

The main comedy show takes place every Friday and Saturday night, and every night is totally different, meaning you can go every week and never see the same act twice.

The show works by the audience selecting which games the performers will play and joining in by yelling out suggestions and picking a winning team at the end throughout the evening. It gets the whole room interacting.

The shows are family-friendly, too, though not recommended for children under six.

The thing I love the most about the comedy nights held here is that they are all completely made up on the spot, improv style. So the actors/comedians have no script whatsoever.

This makes them even more unique and can also end up being even funnier, especially when mistakes are made.

Also, you may fancy your chances at learning improv. In that case, they offer classes here so you can learn how to be a comedian at your next dinner party.

No meals are available during the show, but you can purchase soda, sweets, and snacks and bring your own bottle if you wish.

Admission PriceFree - $15.00

If you’re looking for diverse comedy, dirty late-night comedy, or a free open mic night, then The Secret Club will have something for you.

This club has a lot to offer in terms of its entertainment. In fact, when you check their website, you’ll probably be spoilt for choice for which shows to see.

However, you will find that many of their comedies are free, so you can use more than how many times you can visit.

If you’re looking for something risky and you’ve got a crude sense of humor, check out their late-night show, which takes place every Friday and Saturday. Entry is only $5.00 for this event, and it doesn’t start until 11:50 pm.

The atmosphere in this club is dark and quirky and gives the feel of a backstreet dive bar. They also have a cool rooftop patio, an excellent area for chilling out on warmer evenings.

They don’t serve any food here, but there are plenty of options nearby, such as the Rodeo Goat, Nancy’s Hustle, and Vinny’s Pizzeria, and you can take your own food into the venue.

If you’re looking for some of the biggest names in comedy to enjoy at a comedy club in Houston, then the Improv Comedy Club should be at the top of your list.

This incredible venue hosts artists such as Tony Baker, Dusty Slay, and Tony Hinchcliffe, to name just a few.

Of course, because of the big names performing here, you’re paying a higher price tag, so this is the place you’re more likely to visit for a special occasion or to support your favorite acts.

For example, tickets to see Tony Hinchcliff start at $70.00; however, this will get you a table for two people.

They have a great selection of food to enjoy at your table, too, such as egg rolls, coconut breaded shrimp, and pickle chips, and if you’re there with a date or bestie, you can share the “Date Plate” for $22.00 which consists of chicken tenders, fries and dipping sauces.

The food isn’t anything to write home about personally and perhaps slightly overpriced. However, it was okay for what it was, and it was nice to have something to nibble on at the table while enjoying the show.

You can also hire out the venue if you’re holding a special event or corporate get-together. It can accommodate up to 450 guests in the showroom.

You’re also able to customize your event, meaning you can choose what form of entertainment you want, whether that’s a comedy show, game show, or caricature artist.

The place feels really classy, especially once you enter the grand showroom with elegant tables and a ginormous raised stage. The professional service also adds to the sleek experience.

Admission PriceStarting from $10.00

Rudyard’s has been offering entertainment, food, and drinks to the people of Montrose since the early 80s, and it has since become one of the most famous joints in town for a good night out.

What I love the most about this place is that it feels incredibly welcoming and humble, like you’re spending the night in a friend’s front room.

The staff has a lot to do with this, mainly because they are all extremely attentive and appear as though they really enjoy being there.

This is a family-friendly venue, and children are welcome in until the kitchen closes, which is 11:30 pm on weekends and 11:00 pm the rest of the week. Some late-late-night events aren’t child-friendly, but I doubt anyone is taking their children out at this time anyway.

They have a great menu available here while you enjoy the main event, with items such as burgers, sandwiches, fish and chips, tacos, lettuce wraps, and some fantastic pizzas.

We chose the Fiesta-ish Detroit pizza, which is an 8×10 inch square piece pizza topped. We weren’t expecting pizza at a comedy club to be anything amazing, but we were pleasantly surprised at the quality.

The food price was reasonable, too, pizzas were between $15.00 and $17.00, and the burgers were between $12.00 and $15.00.

Regarding the admission price, it depends on which event you’re attending. The show we went to was priced at just $10.00, but I saw others being advertised for $12.00 to $17.00, so best to check the website for exact event times and prices.

6. Station Theater – Live Improv & Sketch Company

Websitewww.stationtheater.com
Show Times8:00 pm and 9:30 pm
Admission PricePrices vary depending on the event

Station Theater is a quaint little theater that hosts acts from all over Texas. The shows are nearly all improv, meaning you never see the same act twice.

This small venue is an excellent choice for an evening out on a budget. The shows take place on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday evenings; the times vary depending on the acts, so keep an eye on their website for more accurate times and dates. No matter which one you go and see through, the costs are all meager.

The venue is to bring your own bottle, so if you want a beer while you watch the show, you don’t have to worry about waiting in line at the bar or spending a fortune on drinks.

One problem I did have with this location was the parking. If you’re considering coming here, take an Uber or get the bus.

The buses are reliable and frequent in the area, saving having to park miles away from the venue, as you’ll be unlikely to find anywhere to park nearby, especially during more significant events.

It’s also worth bearing in mind that this is a cashless venue, so ensure you’ve got your bank card.

7. Komedy Lounge

Show TimesVarious times. See website for details
Admission Price$0.00 - $50.00

The Komedy showcases some of the best local and international comedians weekly, and they’re all bound to have you laughing your socks off.

I have visited this venue occasionally and have yet to come across an act that didn’t have me in absolute hysterics from start to finish. Even the host alone is hilarious.

They have a live DJ who plays great tunes, which keeps the vibe lively and gives the night a great, funky atmosphere.

Being a massive foodie myself, I was impressed when I saw the menu, unlike the usual fast food you expect to find at event venues.

Instead, they have a fabulous menu consisting of dishes like catfish nuggets, cobb salad, blackened salmon, and bistro-style pasta. I’ve eaten various dishes, all of which have been to an excellent standard. Still, my favorite is the pork chops in onion gravy.

They also have a full bar with cocktails, wine, beer, and soft drinks.

I love the vibe of this place; it’s colorful and lively and feels like a relaxed-style nightclub where you can sit at your table and enjoy a night of complete entertainment.

Also, many of the events are free, apart from some more prominent names. So it’s a perfect night out if you’re looking for something to do on a budget.

The food is pretty reasonable, too, less than $20.00 for the main courses or less than $14.50 for a sandwich or burger.
