7 Places Serving The Best Pies in Houston, TX

I have to admit (without any shame, I might add) that I am a bit of a sucker for homemade pie, and I consider myself somewhat of a connoisseur in the pie department.

I am not kidding; wherever I visit, whether on a holiday or a road trip, I almost always have to call a local bakery or cafe to judge them on the quality of their pies.

So, I was thrilled when I was preparing to put together this guide because, let’s face it, the list of bakeries and spots serving home-baked goods in Houston is endless.

So, I got to work and got my pie face on, so I could put together this guide and tell you where the best pies in Houston are hiding. I mean, I wouldn’t want you to trouble yourself with excessive pie tasting, so I did all the hard work for you.

Thank me later.

Best Pies in Houston, Texas

I have left no pie unturned when it comes to checking out these restaurants, cafes, and bakeries in Houston. I have looked at location, ambiance, ingredients, service, and food quality, and I also had a little look at what else they have to offer besides the pie.

I have also looked at pricing for some locations to get insight into how much you can expect to pay for some of the best pies in Houston.

Let’s get stuck in.

1. The Pie Factory

My Favorite PieBoston Cream
Opening TimesMonday - Friday 8:00 am - 3:00 pm

The pie factory has served Houston some of the most delicious homemade pies since the 1980s. During that time, the company passed through two generations.

The pies served here are made with dedication and a passion for pastry. Their pies are made to order, from scratch, and some of the best in Houston. They’re an amazing price, too, for the quality, at an average of $16.00 per pie.

There are many flavors to choose from, such as blueberry, black bottom, buttermilk, and chocolate chess; however, on my last visit, I decided to try one I hadn’t had before. I opted for Boston Cream, which, I must say, is now my new favorite.

Aside from looking fantastic with unique piped decor, it tasted out of this world. The crust was flakey, light, and buttery, and the filling was just the right amount of sweet without being sickly.

They also offer special occasion cakes made to order and can do pretty much any design you have in mind. The prices for these are also reasonable at around $75.00.

The only downside I found with the Pie Factory was that they aren’t open on the weekends, which I think they’re missing a trick. However, this is not a cafe-style pie shop; its purpose is solely to make pies, tarts, and cakes to order.

2. House of Pies

My Favorite PieBavarian Banana
Opening TimesMonday - Sunday: 7:00 am - 12:00 am

If you’re looking for a large selection of pies and want to visit somewhere time and time again where you can experience a different pie every time, grab your coat and head to House of Pies on Kirby Drive immediately.

Having been here many times before and usually opting for my old favorites, such as cherry pie and pumpkin pie, I decided that I would try a couple of options I had never had before for this guide.

So, as I was visiting with my pie-loving friend, we decided to get two. We went for the Bavarian Banana and the Elberta Peach. We were satisfied with our choice.

The crust of the pies was some of the best we’ve ever tasted, the banana pie had so much flavor without being overpowering, and the peach one was fresh and delicious.

I will say that this place gets busy, so if you’re visiting during peak hours, be prepared for quite a lengthy wait. However, the good news is they’re open seven days a week from early in the morning till midnight, so if you want to skip the queues, waiting till later in the evening is recommended.

I wouldn’t know where to start with telling you what else is on the menu at this place; honestly, the menu is massive.

From every sandwich you could imagine to Texas breakfast with smoked sausages. You’ll need to allow an extra hour to peruse the menu. To save you some time, I recommend the Monte Cristo and the Bayou City Burger.

The prices here are overly reasonable, especially for the portion sizes you receive; for example, the sandwiches ( which all come with a choice of fruit, your choice of potato, or another side dish such as mac and cheese or frijoles,) are all between $9.00 and $14.00.

Overall this is a great place to get your pie fix morning, noon, and night.

Sean’s Pie Shop is a business run from the owner’s home. It isn’t a destination you can head to for a sit-down meal and coffee; instead, you can order your pies to order and to perfection, using traditional family methods.

These pies will take you back to your childhood and remind you of the pies your granny used to make when you’d visit on a cold Sunday afternoon (or maybe that’s just me).

The owner, Sean, has an evident passion for pie making and loves what he does. He makes it his mission to keep his family recipes going and loves sharing them with the Houston community.

The pies are all made to an extremely high standard, especially considering they are only $20.00.

The flavors aren’t overly extravagant or trying to stand out in a crowd. Still, they are reputable for their genuine quality and traditional recipes.

I decided to order the classic pecan pie, and it was perfect. It was my first time ordering from Sean’s, and I will be rushing back to place another order very soon. I highly recommend you do too.

My Favorite PieFresh Strawberry Cream Pie
Opening TimesMonday-Saturday: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm

I believe this is one of the, if not the oldest, pie companies in Houston, first established in 1967.

This family-run company prides itself on its traditional methods, family recipes, and high-quality pies. They use only the best quality ingredients, locally sourced from nearby farms, and never use preservatives in their cooking.

Their pies are made fresh every single morning, in-store, and ready for purchase. However, because they are so popular, I recommend going early if you want a better selection, as they stop baking later in the day, and the popular flavors do sell out.

They have many traditional flavors, such as banana, chocolate apple, and blueberry pie. This time I chose the fresh strawberry cream pie, which was beautiful.

The pies are priced between $18.00 and $22.75, and they also have a small selection of cheesecakes for $21.00.

Opening Times• Tuesday - Thursday: 9:30 am - 5:30 pm

• Saturday: 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

This lady certainly warrants the name Pie Lady of Houston. She does make some of the best pies in the city, and on top of that, she offers fantastic service.

Unfortunately, this company no longer offers a curbside pick-up service, which I was disappointed to learn. This means that when ordering, you have to take into account the extra delivery charge of $9.97, which bumps up the price of your pies to around $42.00.

I know this sounds a little hefty compared to other pie shops I’ve mentioned, but they’re worth the money if you feel like splashing out.

Plenty of pies are available to order, such as coconut cream, pineapple cheese, and pecan bread pudding. I can’t say I have ever tried pies from the pie lady until this review, so I can’t compare which ones are the best.

Still, the one I got on this occasion was the Baby Love, and if that’s anything to go by, then the rest of the menu will be out of this world and well worth the money.

Hazel Loves Pie was initially founded in 2018 with one goal, to bring amazing pies to Houston. Surprisingly the owner is a software engineer who decided to try her hand at baking with a French culinary course.

Over the years, after much experience and travel, she has put together some fabulous recipes using her culinary knowledge and built a business that she named after her grandmother, Hazel.

This is a delivery service, so you will need to order online or over the phone to deliver your cakes.

However, I recently discovered that she supplies cakes to The Woodlands Farmer’s Market at Grogan’s Mill and Crescent Moon Bar and Cafe on Jones Road in Houston, where you can buy her pies by the slice.

All the pies here are made using natural ingredients, and nothing contains any preservatives or bleached flour. It’s all rustic, homemade goodness.

As well as the delicious pies, she makes some lovely muffins in flavors such as pumpkin spice and blueberry.

Lucy’s Pearls has become a staple for all things sweet in Houston with their family recipes which have been passed down through generations of cake makers.

The store owners are incredibly welcoming and warm, which is why I think they have so many regular customers who come back time and time again for a homemade croissant or delicious slice of pie.

After so much pie tasting for “research purposes,” I decided to finish on one of my absolute favorite pies. Having never eaten here before, I thought I could judge better by going for something I know and love: the classic cherry pie.

I wasn’t disappointed with my choice. The filling was beautiful, with just the right amount of tartness and the perfect balance of sweetness, and the pastry melted in my mouth. Overall, this one is one of the best pies I tried.

Another thing I noticed here is that they have a fair amount of options for vegans, which is different from the diet I follow. Still, I have many friends who often struggle to get pies and cakes to suit their requirements, so I noted this as a big plus.

As well as the pies have some other gorgeous options, such as brownie bars, tres leches, carrot cake, and all kinds of homemade cookies. I recommend trying the macadamia white chocolate chip, which I purchased to take home for later and was beautiful.

Regarding the price, they are incredibly reasonable and offer each dessert in various sizes, so you aren’t obliged to spend a fortune on a massive portion. You can buy cookies in single slices for around $2.25; the pies are approximately $9.00 apiece.
